The collection of archive films and interviews from the Staffordshire Film Archive represents the best examples of Hanley captured on film from 1900 to the 1980s.

We begin with the jubilee celebrations of 1960 and see scenes of Hanley town centre. Then we see the earliest film from 1900 and several town scenes from 1926.We see the newsreel from August 1927 of the Potteries wakes in Regent Road and the 1930 Wedgwood Pageant in Hanley Park.

We see many working scenes at Twyford's and - in the Digging for Victory film of 1941 - gardening scenes in Hanley Park and local allotments. We hear of rationing and see a war bonds rally in the Market Square.

There are memories of some Hanley cinemas - the Regent , Imperial , Palace and Empire. In 1950 we see the visit of the chief scout - at the Victoria Hall and at a rally on the old Port Vale ground in Hanley.

We see the Hanley Deep Pit site in the 1960s before reclamation and see the Forest Park opened by the Queen in 1973. Shelton Bar is shown in action before closure and we end with scenes at the 1986 National Garden Festival.
