In the early 1960’s, Mansfield Town had varying success in their league campaigns. The highlight arriving when manager, Raich Carter followed by Tommy Cummings guided Mansfield to fourth place in Division Four to guarantee them promotion to Division Three in the 1962-63 season.
The following years saw Mansfield cement their third division status, but it was in the Cup competitions that the stags really made their mark.
The decade will be fondly remembered by Stags fans for their battles against some of the biggest names in British football. Ex-players Phil Waller and Sandy Pate were two players from that era that remember only too well the glory days of the 60’s.
